A Compliance Officer evaluates business practices and reviews transactions, procedures, processes, etc. to ensure that business is conducted in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and internal policies and procedures. They are required to keep current with any new laws, rules, products, technologies and applications, and assess regulatory implications to the business.
Compliance risk is the risk of legal or regulatory scrutiny, financial loss, or damage to reputation resulting from failure to comply with laws, regulations, rules, other regulatory requirements, or codes of conduct applicable to the financial services industry.
Key responsibilities of this position include the following:
▪Skilled analytical research, analysis, and risk assessment activities
▪Works independently and interacts with internal/external stakeholders
▪Assist in the development and execution of a detailed testing plan and program
▪Responsible for independent testing of controls, Business Monitoring and related activities in business units under Fairstone
▪Support the development of reports of test findings for management
▪Present findings and recommendations on internal controls and assist in opening Corrective Actions
▪Work closely with management to provide guidance, counsel, policy direction and education on compliance and requirements and related issues
▪Liaise with Fairstone business partners and support groups e.g. Legal, Risk, etc. to help execute on Compliance and Control testing objectives
▪Understand regulatory requirements, industry best practices and/or organizational goals and recommend continuous improvements to processes and tools to meet these requirements
▪Knowledge of key Canadian regulations and Fairstone policies (e.g., Privacy, Anti-Spam, Consumer Protection Provincial legislation, Prohibited Debt Collection practices)
▪Excellent analytical skills; ability to organize and bring order to data and information, drawing conclusions and making appropriate recommendations
▪Self-starter and organized; able to work independently, without supervision; able to solve problems and offer solutions.
▪Strong research skills and advanced Microsoft Office skills.
▪Able to construct and execute tests of controls
▪Able to work collaboratively with the businesses they support, providing compliance guidance and administering Compliance policies/procedures as needed in a timely manner.
▪Experience in leading, managing and facilitating critical projects
▪Minimum of 5 years working in Compliance or related Financial services
▪BA in business administration, finance, economics, statistics or work related equivalent
▪Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements with strong ability to quickly grasp and identify applicability to a very wide range of business elements including products, services, operations and systems.
▪Comfort in dealing with all level of employees within Fairstone
▪Ability to work independently, think critically, and manage deadlines while multi-tasking
▪Ability to operate in an evolving, often ambiguous environment
▪Strong knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
